As Tropical Storm Fernand moves west toward the northeast coast of Mexico, it is expected to impact South Texas.

A Tropical Storm Warning was issued Tuesday for areas northeast of Mexico.

“The local impacts across South Texas include increased rain chances, increased swells and a higher risk for rip currents,” a weather statement reads.

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected over the southern Coastal Bend and southern Brush Country through Thursday.

A high risk of dangerous rip currents was issued for Tuesday night along the gulf-facing beaches of the Middle Texas Coast.

Rainfall will diminish Thursday night with drier conditions expected Friday, officials said.

Heat Index values of 105 to 109 are expected over portions of the Coastal Bend and Coastal Plains Thursday through Monday.

There will be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 80s Wednesday with partly sunny skies and wind gusts as high as 22 mph.

Thursday will bring a 20 percent chance of showers and storms with mostly sunny skies and temperature highs near 90.

The weekend is expected to be sunny with clearer skies and temperatures in the 90s.
